The Senior Legal Counsel will be based in Sydney and will be responsible for developing the legal strategy and framework that is focused on the future state of our business plans and is scalable to meet growing needs. This role will manage trustee services, including AFSL, AML/CTF, privacy regulations and undertake Company Secretarial and Corporate Governance duties as well. Essential

  • Manage Trustee services, including AFSL, AML/CTF, and privacy regulation
  • Company Secretarial and Corporate Governance dutie
  • Advising on legal risk management and strategies to minimise exposure
  • Support capital transaction processes (debt and equity), including legal document review and term sheet negotiation
  • Oversee ongoing fund compliance and handle legal matters related to corporate actions within the group
  • Collaborating with RE teams to develop and refine policies, procedures, and systems to ensure compliance with legal standards
  • Stakeholder management in projects and transactions, including managing external legal relationships and costs proactively.

Desirable

  • Undertaking complex legal transactions (e.g. sales, acquisitions, developments, joint ventures/capital partnerships).
  • Providing commercially sound, prompt, and practical legal advice across the Group on a range of issues including acquisitions, disposals, development, construction, leasing, property management.
  • Identifying and managing legal issues and risks in the provision of legal advice.
  • Assisting with cross-department issues such as tax, compliance and finance and working with those teams
  • Support the business planning and forecasting processes.
  • Manage within set financial plans/budgets as appropriate.

Experience

  • 8+ years’ experience in financial services law, with expertise in property fund management (as a guide)
  • Strong technical and organisational capability, well-developed communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Willingness to drive outcomes and the ability to oversee multiple workstreams simultaneously with minimal supervision.
