You will be part of the Legal Department, situated at DEME’s headquarters in Antwerp (Belgium), which consists of an extensive and complimentary team of in-house legal counsels, each responsible for one or more geographical areas in the world, DEME business units and/or specific professional domains.

Your role will primarily involve contract law, construction law and public procurement law, at both a national and international level, particularly in relation to the complex infrastructure projects. You will mainly support the activities of DEME Offshore.

You will work with other DEME departments to support global projects before, during, and after contract execution.

Your responsibilities

  • Reviewing, analyzing and qualifying contract conditions and other requirements included in tender documentation (public and private) of offshore projects worldwide and advising DEME Offshore tender teams on possibilities to mitigate potential contractual and commercial risks.

  • Reviewing, qualifying, drafting and negotiating various commercial contracts relevant for DEME Offshore’s business, including construction contracts, engineering contracts, shipbuilding and ship repair contracts, joint venture contracts, shareholders’ and share purchase agreements...

  • Providing general legal advice on a wide scope of legal questions related to DEME Offshore’s activities.

  • Managing national and international disputes in which DEME Offshore is involved.

Your profile

  • You hold a Master degree in Law.

  • You have minimum 5 years of experience in aforementioned areas, preferably as a qualified lawyer or in-house counsel in an international environment.

  • You are fluent in English both verbally and in writing.

  • You have experience in offshore wind projects and/or large infrastructure works.

  • You have ample knowledge of standard industry contracts, such as FIDIC, NEC, LOGIC and BIMCO, as well as knowledge of a variety of contract types such as framework agreements, supply contracts, JV’s, consortiums, partnership, NDA’s, etc.

  • You have built up experience in a commercial / contracting environment whereby you have reviewed, advised on and negotiated complex tenders and contracts with multiple stakeholders involved.

  • You have experience in advising on contentious matters and disputes.

  • You have strong communication and relational skills. You have an open, unprejudiced, and international view.

  • You are assertive, self-confident and a true team player, and at the same time you can work autonomously.

  • You are open-minded, flexible and stress resistant.

  • You are prepared to travel for a limited period and at short notice.
