Job Description

Foxstone Recruiting is working on an exclusive search for a General Counsel for a Family Office. 

My client established a Family Office based in San Antonio, Texas, and provides a wide range of professional services to three generations of family clients. The Family deeply values its global view and international footprint; the Family Office seeks to mirror this value. They are seeking a General Counsel who can promote the closely held values of the Family Office.

The Family Office staff work closely together and the person filling the role must sit in San Antonio. 

Below are the responsibilities and description of the ideal candidate for this role:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Legal Compliance for the Family Office and its Investments.
  • Trust Officer and Compliance Officer for regulated trust company to include comprehensive reviews of trust declarations, governing documents, and comprehensive understanding and review of state and federal requirements relevant to trust services.
  • Maintain and update the Family Office and trust company policies and procedures.
  • Advise Family on estate planning, tax, and other relevant issues; ensure all estate plans are kept up to date.
  • Spot issues of importance to the Family Office and its clients and make recommendations for further action as appropriate.
  • Identify and engage (as necessary) outside counsel, then coordinate and oversee their work.

Client Service & Compliance

  • Maintain minutes and records of all board and committee meetings and decisions.
  • Ensure compliance for all new and existing investments held and/or administered in-house to include legal review of partnership agreements, private placement memorandums, subscription documents, and all other relevant investment documents.
  • Ensure compliance of with all applicable local, state, Federal, and non-US laws and regulations to include real estate leasing.
  • Work with the President to ensure appropriate materials are prepared and distributed for all meetings.
  • Advise clients regarding legal matters.

Strategic Planning

  • Collaborate with President in developing draft strategic plan and implementing plan following approval.

Annual Budget Planning

  • Collaborate with President and Controller annually with budget planning and implementation following approval by the Management Committee.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • 5-10+ years of general legal experience, preferably in a role in wealth management or a Family Office setting.
  • Establish residence in San Antonio.
  • Daily presence in the Family Office.
