Primarily responsible for providing legal support primarily to the North America (NORAM) markets on a variety of legal issues and commercial contracting matters
Work closely with Global HR to provide legal advice on employment matters, collaborating with Employee Relations and other legal directors on issues of regional impact or significance
Lead, inspire and continually develop a team of lawyers and paralegals with a commercial focus on the NORAM market; supervise workflow and performance of all team members
Drive the continuous development of the legal function’s relationship as a key business partner primarily to the NORAM management and business teams, ensuring that the businesses act within global legal and compliance protocols and guidelines and coordinating with global legal and compliance colleagues as necessary
Continually review, recommend, develop and update procedures and contract templates, leading the development of practical streamlined legal contracting processes for client and supplier contracting within the region including providing training to Sales and Program managers on contract issues and procedures
Work closely with Global Legal to provide legal advice on multinational matters, collaborating with other legal directors on issues of regional impact or significance
Draft, negotiate and review contracts (including RFPs and RFIs) for clients, suppliers as well as other commercial agreements in the NORAM Market, including real estate leases
Advise on data privacy matters arising from client and supplier contracts and employee relations in the NORAM Market, including the negotiation of data privacy agreements in client and supplier relationships, working closely with the Global Data Privacy Officer and the IT department in order to ensure compliance with data privacy laws and information security requirements
Provide support to the Finance, HR & Sales and Program Management teams on contract compliance and legal issues and requirements arising from those functions
Manage and report on contentious matters and litigation and coordinate legal procedures in cases of fraud, police complaints etc.
Liaise with outside counsel as needed, ensuring best value advice for the business subject to budget
Oversee participation in local trade organizations and related competition matters
Act as company secretary and supervise country corporate matters (i.e. – organizational documents, filing of accounts, board changes, etc)
Assist on corporate transactional matters, including mergers & acquisitions and corporate reorganizations
Participate in and/or lead additional projects as required
Promote a productive and harmonious working relationship with the Legal Team and the business in general and enhance the company’s image with current and prospective clients.
Employment Law experience
At least 8 years of In-house experience preferred, preferably in a global environment
Law firm experience desired, preferably in an international firm
Travel industry and/or technology-related legal experience a plus
Experience working in different NORAM jurisdictions where CWT operates (Canada and US) a plus
University degree
Law degree – J.D. / U.S. law degree preferred
Authorized to practice law and in good standing
Experience working with contracts
People management experience
Word, PowerPoint and preferably Excel
Familiarity with Legal Databases
