Walrus Foundation's mission is to advance adoption of the Walrus decentralized storage and retrieval platform.

Walrus Foundation is looking for its first legal hire to help build the company and advance the protocol ground up.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide end-to-end legal support to the Walrus Foundation, including serving as the day to day legal partner to all internal teams, and external partners at Mysten Labs and Sui Foundation.

  • Thought partner to Walrus Foundation’s leaders on all legal, compliance, regulatory, and policy matters.

  • Draft terms of use, policies, and disclosures, and implement related processes.

  • Legal owner for corporate governance, partnerships, events, community outreach and grant programs,  intellectual property, and other procurement-related matters.

  • Oversee board-related matters including drafting minutes, board resolutions, and other materials for Board meetings.

  • Oversee entity formation including creation of formation documents and filings with local and regional authorities.

  • Draft, review and update all third party and intercompany agreements.

  • Working with Human Resources, manage the company’s employee token grant program, and other employment legal considerations.

  • Remain up-to-date on relevant industry developments and regulations affecting crypto, and blockchain, content moderation, privacy, and IP, and apply that knowledge to ensure compliance and inform company positioning.

  • Cultivate relevant industry relationships and act as brand representative.

  • Manage outside counsel. 

  • Do whatever needs to be done, and do the right thing.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7+ years of combined experience in major law firms and in-house legal departments in high-growth tech companies.  

  • Ability to efficiently manage a high volume of complex and critical work with urgency and limited supervision.

  • Enthusiasm about blockchain technology required. 

  • Expertise with Layer 1’s  a strong plus. Experience with content moderation, Section 230 of the CDA, privacy laws and principles of platform liability a strong plus. 

  • Experience in advising all levels of the organization, including senior level executives and is comfortable handling projects independently, directly, and in a solutions-oriented manner.

  • Self-starter, quick learner with sense of urgency, highly driven and proactive.

  • Unquestioned integrity and excellent business judgment with the ability to assess and risk-weigh situations quickly often with imperfect information.

  • Great communicator comfortable providing clear, actionable, and practical advice.

  • Solutions-oriented with strong business sensibilities.

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in California or New York (registered in house counsel is acceptable).
