Join Our Team as Director/Senior Counsel, International!

Are you a seasoned in-house legal professional from the medical devices/diversified healthcare sector with a passion for international commercial affairs? We're looking for a Director/Senior Counsel, International to join our dynamic team and support our global operations. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and have a knack for navigating complex legal and risk landscapes, this role is for you! The role will be likely based in the UK, depending on the candidate.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel-International, you will act as the primary legal advisor for international business operations:
  • Provide strategic legal and business advice to international teams and senior leadership.
  • Draft, negotiate, and interpret a wide range of commercial agreements.
  • Support compliance, labour law, privacy and regulatory colleagues across international markets.
  • Proactively review and mitigate legal risks, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Stay updated on relevant laws and drive strategic business goals.
  • Manage outside counsel as needed and maintain confidentiality of legal communications.

 

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Experience: 10+ years PQE in commercial law, with at least 5 years in-house experience in the medical device, pharmaceutical, or biotech industry and a strong law firm background.
  • Expertise: Strong knowledge of EU/UK medical device regulations, contract law, and data privacy.
  • Skills: Exceptional interpersonal, communication, management and presentation skills.  Strong analytical skills and an ability to synthesize bespoke advice in a fast-moving, international environment for the business to meet its strategic objectives.
  • Qualifications: Law degree and professional qualification as a solicitor or barrister in England or Wales, or equivalent in a major European jurisdiction.
  • Languages: Ideally, business-level proficiency in another major European language (German or French) other than English

JOB SCOPE:

  • Has wide-ranging experience and resolves complex issues in creative and effective ways.
  • Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
  • Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel (Team Lead).
  • Advises senior leadership on complex topics and counsels and influences effectively across teams to all stakeholders.
