Associate Director, Legal Counsel, Employment Law
We are looking for an exceptional employment lawyer located in Barcelona. This lawyer will provide practical and solution-oriented legal advice to Gartner’s HR and business teams on employment law matters in Spain and across the EMEA region. The position will report to the VP of Employment Counsel for EMEA and be part of a collaborative global employment legal team.
What you’ll do:
Provide operational and strategic support on labor law matters across the EMEA region, with a particular focus on Spain.
Manage litigation and risk across the region in partnership with external counsel where appropriate.
Advise on day-to-day employment matters including hiring, disciplinary issues, misconduct, performance management, anti-harassment and discrimination, sickness absence, termination procedures, non-competes and compensation and benefits.
Advise Employee Relations on the management of internal investigations.
Advise on works council matters and on negotiations with unions.
Monitor legal developments relevant to Gartner and its workforce, conduct legal research and assist with knowledge sharing and internal training on HR topics
Participate in HR projects including pay reporting, working time management, DEI initiatives and compliance matters.
Help to build best practices, precedents and enablement for internal HR team members.
What you’ll need
Significant experience advising companies on employment law matters with limited requirement for direct supervision.
At least 6 years of professional experience working as an attorney in a law firm or as an inhouse lawyer.
Qualified to practice law in Spain or other EMEA country.
Experience advising on employment law matters in the EMEA region.
Fluency in English. Business proficiency in Spanish preferred.
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with legal team members, senior leaders, HR Partners, and other business unit partners.
Ability to communicate practical, clear and concise legal advice to a wide variety of internal stakeholders.
Strong problem-solving skills, excellent, practical judgement and the ability to own issues to their successful conclusion.
Excellent negotiation skills, analytical mindset with exemplary interpersonal skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, priorities effectively with excellent time management.
Growth mindset and drive for continuous improvement.
